Tanzanian (?) Mask
The origin of this mask is unclear but could be from the Sukuma people of Tanzania. If so it would have been used in harvest rites or perhaps belonged to music and dance groups that were popular among the Sukuma from the colonial period to the 1950s, and who vied for the audience's favor with entertaining performances. It is carved out of wood and has metal teeth.
14" high x 7.25" wide
$650
(custom stand included)
