Tanzanian (?) Mask
The origin of this mask is unclear but could be from the
Sukuma people of Tanzania. If so it would have been used in harvest rites or
perhaps belonged to music and dance groups that were popular among the Sukuma
from the colonial period to the 1950s, and who vied for the audience's favor
with entertaining performances. It is carved out of
wood and has metal teeth.
