Ibrahima Faye was born in Dakar, the
capital of Senegal in 1962. The reason behind his
passion for oil-on-glass is that it is typically African and began in west
Africa in the 19th century.
Although pioneers of the craft have influenced Ibrahima, he had developed his
own style and
vision by adding depth, light and shadow, as well as detail and vibrant color.
His paintings
represent the African way of life: traditional aspects of their culture but also
the modern side of
Africa today; its dynamism, optimism and the peoples' outlook on the future.
Ibrahima's painting
are done in reverse on the back of the glass, starting with outlines done in
Indian ink.
Each one is unique and take from a few months to a year to complete.
