Verdite is a semi-precious stone over 3500 million years old and a challenging medium for sculptors and master craftsmen. Ancient tribesmen crafted Verdite into jewelry and witchdoctors made a preparation from the powdered stone, which they believed increased fertility. Verdite occurs in a range of changing patterns and shades from golden brown to rich emerald greens and blues. It is found only in southern Africa and the Verdite found in Zimbabwe’s only known deposit is of particularly high quality.
