This container was used to store the bones of important ancestors and is surmounted by a wooden guardian figure. The style is that of the southern Fang, who carve shorter, squatter shapes than the northern Fang who exhibit a tendency toward more elongated figures. The container has a sticky, black patina. The figure was displayed during ceremonies but would otherwise have been kept hidden.
