Chi Wara Headdress (horizontal type) - Mali
This style of sculpture, worn by the Bamana people at harvest
festivals, is normally attached to a
woven cap used to fasten it to the wearer's head. In this case the cap is
carved out of wood. Sexuality and agriculture
are
closely related in the Bamana's mind, since both ensure human survival.
