

Baule Door - Ivory Coast
This is the door to an inner room. On either side of the female figure, a trance
diviner's gong and mallet have been carved, joined by a cord. The figure
possibly represents a bush spirit and the two dishes may be there to feed her.
Below the feet of this powerful personage is a leopard, and two sheathed knives,
symbols of might and royalty.
